Fuses

A lightning strike doesn't have to hit your fence to kill your energizer — it just has to get close. Lightning fuses are the cheap insurance layer: they sit between fence and charger and sacrifice themselves before the surge reaches the electronics.

These 12" fuses protect both the hot and ground sides on chargers rated 5 joules and larger. Run them together with a lightning diverter for layered protection — the diverter bleeds the surge to ground, the fuse catches what's left.
